Many of them have desktop computers at home and in the office, and when shopping for a new system, they often only think about a desktop PC, instead of considering other options. Some can afford to have both a desktop computer at home and a laptop for mobile computing. But for many, this is not an achievable goal and they must choose one or the other.
Technological advancements have made laptops much more functional, user-friendly and powerful than their ancestors. In fact, here are a few reasons why a laptop may be a better alternative than a desktop computer.
1. Mobility
One of the biggest reasons to buy a laptop is the mobility and portability it offers. A laptop, unlike a desktop computer, can travel anywhere, and provide all types of computer functions anywhere and anytime. Unlike desktop computers, laptops are wireless and allow wireless Internet connections and email functions.
Additionally, laptops are versatile as they can be used both at home and on the go. Additionally, they can be connected to the same peripherals used on desktop computers, such as printers, scanners, and regular mice for home use. Laptops can sit at a desk and are powerful enough to replace desktop computers and provide as much, if not more, computing power as desktop computers.
2. Better displays
For many, the pro desktop argument is the monitor, in terms of size and quality. But, in reality, today’s laptops have bigger and better screens, up to 17-inch LCD widescreens with high-definition resolution.
3. Today’s laptops weigh less
Another argument in favor of laptops over desktops is that new laptops are made, lighter without sacrificing power, features and performance. The Apple MacBook is just over an inch thick, and the Toshiba Protege weighs just four pounds. Fujitsu also makes ultralight convertibles that weigh just a pound and a half.
4. Better Computing and Battery Power
Many people will say that desktop computers are more powerful than laptops, but in today’s high-tech world, that is no longer true. They carry some of the best processors, such as Intel Core 2 Duo, superior storage hard drives and plenty of RAM, up to 4 GB in some models with upgrades available. They also have a wide range of optical drives, such as Blu Ray for high definition and DVD, and other high-end critical entertainment features, such as for gaming and video.
And, with new advances in battery technology technology has improved as well with some laptops having up to 7-8 hours of life on a full charge.
